The person who posted the first 45 minutes of Starfield online and therefore became Bethesda's most formidable foe has just been taken into custody. Even if he apologized to Todd Howard, the studio's owner, the man will not get away with it.
We forewarned you a few days ago that several excerpts from Starfield—particularly the opening minutes, but also the combat and exploration phases—were already making their way around the internet. It was even able to find the first 45 minutes of the journey by doing a little searching on Reddit, YouTube, and other sites.
This scandalous leak is the result of a gamer who was able to obtain a physical copy of the game. The individual had even recorded himself using a webcam to test the game despite obviously not having light on all floors. It should go without saying that the cops would eventually find him.
THE STARFIELD LEAKER IS IN THE HANDS OF THE POLICE
To be more specific, on August 24, 2023, the Shelby County Sheriff's Office in Tennessee (United States) just detained Darin Harris, 29, the accused leaker. He is facing several accusations, including:
theft involving items priced between $2,500 and $10,000 theft involving items valued under $10,000
possessing marijuana
Investigation reveals that Darin Harris took multiple copies of Starfield from the warehouse where he works, including collector's editions from Constellation. Then, he put these unlawfully obtained copies up for sale on the Japanese e-commerce website Mercari, with prices ranging from 70 to 650 dollars.
It should be noted that despite his imprisonment, Harris's game clips are still accessible on YouTube and some social media sites, like Reddit and X. In reality, and if you don't want to be pampered, we certainly invite you to use its services with extreme caution. The consequences imposed against the leaker are yet unknown to us.
Reminder: Starting on September 6, 2023, Starfield will be available on PC and Xbox Series X/S. From the day of release, the Xbox Game Pass will also provide Bethesda's space RPG. Be aware that the game already appears to be having a positive impact on Xbox Series X sales, which have been surging on Amazon.
